A General Problem with Grievances and a Common Theme
I have discovered a general problem with our grievances while attempting to write the first draft of our petition.
As I was rewriting the grievance demands for clarity and conciseness, I found that there were two basic groups. Demands that directly addressed the greed and corruption, and demands that didn't. Additionally, all the grievance demands that directly addressed greed and corruption fell into two groups. One group directed toward big business, and one group directed toward government. These two groups I labeled Part 1 and Part 2 of the petition.
In order to keep our focus on greed and corruption, which is the common thread of the OWS movement and the petition, and include as many grievances as possible, we need to word our demands in each grievance area so they specifically address the greed and corruption. This is the only way we can include more than the first few grievance demands in Michael's original draft of the petition, and not leave out important concerns like healthcare and education etc.
This morning, I also realized that there was one general area we are neglecting, which could serve as a lens to focus many of our grievances that are hard to nail down to greed and corruption. That common theme is best defined with the question,.. What are the primary functions of government?
If we define the primary functions of government as healthcare and education for instance, then it becomes much easier to demand that government provide those needs, and channel the money into healthcare and education instead of spending the tax payers money on war and election campaigns etc.
Thus, I suggest we start focusing on more specific demands that address the greed, corruption, and primary role of a government OF, BY, and FOR the people!
Thanks for listening

Just a First Impression
Ray,
Thanks for all the hard work you're doing digging into the draft and working on making the content more cohesive and powerful!
Just off the cuff, my first impression based on your comments is that what we have right now is actually two documents in one. One document contains the grievances of the 99%. The other is the beginnings of a platform for a political party.
I think once we split everything out into these two documents, things will start to clear up a little better. The list of grievances should be what the majority of the 99% could get behind. The platform should be our ideas on the functions and responsibilities of government and therefore what we would offer the American people if we chose to form such a party and run candidates.
Keeping in mind, of course, that certain constraints on greed fall under the party platform document as well. It's just that these particular ideas about the functions and responsibilities of government are in favor right now. We need to ride the wave!
Peace,
Johanna

I've, stated this before, but...Things get lost in this format..
My idea on how this "movement" might be most effective would be to work in at least a couple waves...I'd started to develop a plan of 3 "Objectives", with 3 "Initiatives/Grievances " for each Objective:
333333 Objective #1; TAX REFORMS
3
3
33 Objective #2; TRANSPARENCY, and OBVIOUS REFORMS REVEALED
3
3
3 Objective #3; CONGRESSIONAL COMPENSATION REFORM
33333
333333 Initiative 1a; Social Security Tax Reform (Lower,Flatter,Open-ended Progressive)
3 1b; Capital Gains (L,F,O,P, Tax with exemptions)
3 1c; DOD/DOJ Tax (L,F,O,P Tax, with higher marginal increases on top)
3 (And Renaming of Income to Discretionary Tax)
3 2a; Full Disclosure of ALL Political Spending for National Office.(give/rec.)
333 2b; Transparency of ALL Financial Ind. Reg. Actions, Open Audits for FED Res.
3 2c; Full Disclosure of ALL Healthcare and Pharma. Spending to Providers.
3
3 3a; Congressional Civil Servants should be paid no more than an avg. soldier/teacher
3 3b; All Congressional Employees subject to same healthcare as 4yr. service member
x 3333333 3c; All Congressional employees subject to same retirement as 4yr service member

Lol,. that's pretty hard to follow. You might want to delete and repost when you get the graphics figured out.
I tried posting a simple time line I constructed in Word in one of my messages, and it got all corrupted when I posted to the forum too.
