End the prison-industrial complex

Post by BangTango on Fri Oct 28, 2011 3:43 am

I have no idea how to do it but profiting off of prisoners is inhuman, and by not rehabilitating people we are screwing our society out of parents, family, etc. We need more things like house arrest, half-way houses, rehab and treatment, etc.

Bang - we need to take a page out of Texas' book and start looking for alternatives to prison. Of course the FIRST thing to do is decriminalize drugs and make abuse a medical issue and not a legal one.

Agreed, too many people are incarcerated on non-violent drug charges. Federal prohibition must end.

Prison and legal reform must be addressed, but not sure it can be done until the private for prison corporations are eliminated.
Corporations via federal and state contracts, are making billions in profits, and have created a human based commodity.
The profits have given them a very powerful lobbying voice in all states as well as federal. And of course, with humans and crime as their commodity, it benefits them to pay to create new laws, longer terms, and increased corruption of legal system.
