Employment Interests Empty Employment Interests

Post by Joe Steel Fri Oct 21, 2011 10:50 am

With the vast majority of the American People earning their income through employment for salary and wages, any reordering of national priorities must include attention to employment interests.

In the past, when good jobs were relatively easy to find, abused and exploited employees always could quit a job and move on to another. Or, they could form a union and bargain to protect their interests. Those days are gone and, because of the growth of the global economy, are unlikely to return. We need laws to protect the interests of American citizens in their work. I'd like to see the product of this working group include some attention to employment interests.

Employment Interests Empty Second Attempt

Post by Joe Steel Sat Oct 22, 2011 7:11 am

I posted this yesterday but it hasn't seemed to spark much interest so I making a second attempt to raise the issue. This time I'm adding a link to a story which I think adds emphasis, Occupy Wall Street, unions get their activism together.

Unions are becoming more supportive of the Occupy movement. To me, that indicates the central importance of employment issues. I think we really should pay more attention to them in any document we create.

Employment Interests Empty Re: Employment Interests

Frankly, I'm disappointed this topic hasn't gotten more interest. Secure employment with fair compensation is the bedrock of any modern community. If we could depend on it, most of the other issues wouldn't matter because they wouldn't have developed.

Great video/link! Thank you for posting. My labor union, Sheet Metal Workers Local#36 in St. Louis are in support of the local OWS movement.

Do you think they can occupy Kiener all winter...with or without union support?

As far as Kiener goes, I can't say, we'll have to see what happens. But as a member of that union I know they support OWS.
