SLOGAN IDEAS
I have been thinking about this a long time and wanted something general, that encompassed the whole and was broad enough to include everyone w/out alienating any particular party.

Any thoughts?

Change for the 99
[
Want to scare the hell out of the bankers, the corporations and the uber rich ?
Try this slogan :
We're the 99 and we'll Vote !
That may sound lame, but it is what the uber rich fear. They fear it so much that they have pushed for or passed voter suppression legislation...legislation which says "if you want to vote you have to show some ID, jump through some hoops or whatever. Legislation which says... you got a parking ticket 5 years ago? Sorry, that counts as a conviction...you can't vote.
People coming together and voting as a block for a party which the 1% does NOT control is the single greatest fear that they have. I know because some years back, a memo was leaked from City Bank which said exactly that.
And... regardless of what we want... sooner or later we're going to have to upset the apple cart... put people into office who are NOT democrats and NOT republicans...as both of them sold out years ago.
So... we might as well get used to it...and burn it into our brains... we need to organize, mobilize and vote. We need people to go door to door across the country ...to promote leaders that truly will represent what we wish...and who will push for the constitutional amendments and other legislation which is needed to get the country back on track.
So... sorry for rambling...but thats my slogan "We're the 99 and we VOTE !"

Re: SLOGAN IDEAS
“A government is only as corrupt and incompetent as its people are divided and apathetic”
(In other words, watching celebrities dance on TV can't be that interesting ; or, Get off the couch, the house is crumbling.)
A rallying cry of sorts.
"The 99%: A Movement Of the People, By the People, For the People"

Short and sweet
Whatever slogan's we use should be short and sweet. That way, they will make excellent sound bytes for the evening news...helping us to get our message across.
Accordingly, a set of rules need to be established for slogan's. Just like in marketing or sales, you need to get your point out quick and fast...because the more time you spend trying to convert people, the more the movement loses its momentum.
Please don't say it can't happen...it does happen. I've seen it. Its not a pretty thing.
So... what we want are slogans that draw people in. Saying who we are (we are the 99") is great...but we need the folks at home to ask questions like...what does that slogan mean? Because when they ask, the media will have to ask...which of course gives us a chance to get our message on television or radio or into print...without spending a dime.
So... short and to the point...but with a question.
A great example is the slogan that abby hoffman came up with for a community that lived along a river, which was downstream from a plant which actively polluted it. "Save the River". A marvelous slogan...why? Because people would ask "What river? Where? Whats the problem with the river?" and these questions would allow activists to engage other people in a dialog...explaining what was going on and why getting active mattered...and soon, bam... another convert was out shouting "Save the river!"... And thus, the movement grew quickly to gigantic proportions.
This is what we want... to grow our movement in good weather and bad...to allow people at home the opportunity to help us through fund raising or even just blogging or emailing people.
Of course, these are just my opinions based on a lifetime in media.
Some examples of slogans that might fit the bill (and I'm just spit balling here... I won't claim to like or hate this, but its an example of what I mean :
Change Now !
I think you get the point

A Unifying Message
On Deviant Art I occasionally come up with some hypothetical slogans for political campaigns; one of my favorites has been, "America is a Nation of Many. We must all Stand together."

I think instead of, "the Nation is coming," we should use, "the COUNTRY is coming." It sounds more universal, more approachable.
Scary
How about this... a sort of chant, really :
We
We Are
We are Coming
And then at the end of a march its modified slightly
We
We Are
We Are Here
Got the idea from a series of Dr. Who episodes.

I like this
This is not original but I like it.
"A Country where 1% of the people makes decisions for the other 99% is not a democracy."

Re: SLOGAN IDEAS
This brings to mind a chant : "We Demand Democracy ! Democracy NOW !"
With that chant, the meter gives a beat...you can dance to it.

yeah
Understood...but the problem with that is...it says "We already have the kind of government we are happy with."
When you say "Democracy NOW !" it is a clear statement that democracy is not being practiced and so the people have gathered to demand that things change...that a government of, by and for the people be established...either from the ashes from the old...or by building it up on top of the rubble of the old...either way...the people are fed up and want CHANGE.
See what I mean? Its not just about a chant people are used to...its about a statement that shakes at the very core of what our opponents are about. It tells them "We know that you are not practicing democratic principals. We're tired of this one sided all for you and nothing for us nonsense. That has to change...right NOW"
"Democracy Now !"
Think about all that is said in that brief little statement. Don't just blow it off because you are used to something else. Please.

I'm not blowing it off, and it does work for me. At this point I think we just need to get a mission statement out there. I'd be willing to go with Democracy Now!

Re: SLOGAN IDEAS
I agree. Perhaps a statement of the top ten things we believe would help us establish democracy...aka a list of demands...but coached in terms of
1: Because the Federal Reserve was and is established and controlled by Bankers, rather than the federal government, The Federal Reserve has no authority to set interest rates or to demand that its name appear on currency issued by the United States Treasury.
A) Accordingly, We the 99% demand that the sole authority to set interest rates and print money exist SOLELY with the United States Treasury, and that the Federal Reserve be dissolved, with all of its resources transferred to the US Treasury.
B) We also demand that any resistance to this be deemed as an act of treason, and that the agencies responsible for the arrest and conviction of traitors act accordingly.
Please note the format I've used here...
First, I establish the reason for the demand
secondly : I state the demand
lastly : I add teeth to the demand.
This format should be incorporated in all of our demands. Anything short of this is like telling a kid "don't take a cookie"...and then doing nothing when the kid does until they reach for another and another and another. Fairly soon, there will be no cookies.
Without consequences , I can guarantee you that our demands will be given lip service at best.
But... I would limit our demands to ten. Anything more than that starts to look like a laundry list. anything less and it looks like we could be bought off easily. Ten is the right number. it has a bit of authority to it...the base ten system, the ten commandments, the top ten list...and now... the Ten Demands of the 99%%
Of course...thats just my opinion
